Counselling
Our Psychologists provide individual counselling sessions designed to alleviate psychological symptoms of mood and anxiety and address personal, social and biological factors that are contributing to the individual's problems. Our treatment approach also aims to enhance coping resources and to build insight into problematic thoughts, beliefs and behaviours that serve as barriers to healthy psychological functioning. We utilize evidence-based methods that have been demonstrated to be effective.
Each counselling session is 50 minutes long. The frequency of the sessions varies depending on the nature and severity of the problem you are facing. Typically, sessions will start out occurring on a weekly basis and will be reduced to every few weeks (or longer) as your condition improves. Often, less than 10 sessions are sufficient to give significant alleviation of symptoms.
Psychological Assessment
Psychological Assessment focuses on determining the nature, causes, and potential effects of an individual's mental health problems and measuring related dysfunction in personal, social, recreational and occupational domains. Comprehensive psychological assessment typically involves a full clinical interview, a psychometric testing battery measuring personality and psychological symptoms, and review of any relevant medical files. Assessment reports usually contain a full diagnosis, prognosis, and recommendations for future treatment, in addition to answering any other specific referral questions that are posed.
What are your fees?
Are your services covered by insurance plans?
Fees are calculated through guidelines established by the British Columbia Psychological Association. Please contact the office for information on current rates. Clinical Psychology services are not covered by the B.C. Medical Services Plan. However, many employers provide group health benefits through insurance providers such as Canada Life, SunLife, Manulife, Green Shield and Blue Cross that reimburse for services provided by a Registered Psychologist. If you have been involved in a motor vehicle accident we are able to bill the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) directly for services. We are also able to direct bill Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) and RCMP for those who qualify, and treatment and assessment through WorkSafeBC is authorized for our psychologists if you have suffered a workplace injury.
